Data Use Policy
License Watch reports the public license records that state agencies publish for the licenses you ask us to watch. By using it you agree to these rules.
Allowed
- Checking that contractors, subcontractors, vendors and suppliers your business hires or buys from hold the licenses, bonds and insurance the state requires.
- Keeping a dated record of those checks for your own compliance files.
Not allowed
- Any use covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. License Watch is not a consumer reporting agency. Don't use it to decide whether to hire, promote, retain or engage any individual (including as an employee, temp or independent contractor engaged as a person rather than a business), or for any decision about an individual's credit, insurance, tenancy or similar.
- Watching your own employees' or job applicants' personal occupational licenses. We don't cover those license types.
- Staffing or background-screening services built on our reports.
- Reselling, publishing or giving the reports to anyone else, or using them to market to the businesses in them.
Your watch list
We use the license numbers you send only to run your checks. We don't share your list or tell anyone you're watching them.
Where the data comes from
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Washington Department of Labor & Industries, Oregon Construction Contractors Board, NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. These are records the agencies publish for public access. They can lag the agency's own lookup by a few days; confirm with the agency before acting on anything important.
